Although not all tertiary institutions have a strict dress code, some do, such as the University of Ilorin. In 2018, UNILORIN’s administration established a committee to develop the modalities of the institution’s dress code. The students’ clothing code is intended to discourage kids from dressing inappropriately. The dress code educates students on how their appearance impacts how others see them, advising them to dress appropriately if they wish to demand respect and safeguard their integrity.

Furthermore, supporters of student dress rules, such as UNILORIN, think that dressing correctly at all times while on school grounds improves the whole educational process of learning. Indecent clothing worn by both male and female pupils may provide distractions that inhibit study. As a result, the clothing code attempts to improve the learning atmosphere. In addition, the dress code is enforced to prepare students for the norms of the real world after graduation. Students who want to be professional employees may be required to dress a specific manner as part of a workforce. As a result, they will be more prepared to dress correctly in their future employment.

In addition to the arguments advanced in favor of the implementation of dress rules in a higher institution of learning, wearing better helps one stand out and is easily observed. This might make a student appear personable to others, resulting in opportunities to engage with individuals.

The Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC) is in charge of implementing the directives of the students’ dress code on school grounds. Students who are found to be in breach of the code shall face consequences imposed by the school’s administration. As a result, new and returning UNILORIN students must learn the “dos” and “don’ts” of the dress code and rigorously comply to the guidelines.
